Service Description

According to the Georgia Composite Board requirements for Associate Professional Counselors; Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. 135-5-.01 (“"Supervision" means the direct clinical review, for the purpose of training or teaching, by a supervisor of a Professional Counselor's interaction with their client(s). The purpose of supervision is to promote the development of the practitioner's clinical skills. ”) Supervision is a service I provide to master’s level counseling degree graduates who are seeking licensure initially as an Associate Professional Counselor (APC) with the intention of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor at the completion of the supervision process. It has two goals: to improve client care as well as facilitate professional growth and development of clinical skills. I see my role of supervisor as a teacher, consultant, and a counselor. However, a supervisor is not a personal therapist. In my supervision sessions, I use multiple activities including case presentations, review of case notes, audio recordings, role playing, and direct observation. We will also discuss topics such as ethics, life/work balance, theoretical orientation, professional development, case consultations, licensure rules and assistance with the licensure application process. GEORGIA COMPOSITE BOARD SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS Effective 10/1/18, the Georgia Composite Board requires that approved supervisors are those who are certified as a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) by the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia (LPCGA) or as a National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). In 2018, I became a CPCS after completing 24 hours of LPCAGA approved supervision training. Also effective 10/1/18, the total number of directed experience and supervision hours required annually has changed. An APC is now required to complete a minimum of 35 hours of supervision during a 12 month period. Your supervision must occur with your directed experience, which means you will need paid employment throughout this process. For a counselor with a master’s degree, you must complete three years of supervision to be eligible for LPC licensure. Supervision can be completed in the form of individual or group sessions. Individual supervision is defined as 1 or 2 supervisees. My fee for individual sessions is $80 an hour or $60 an hour per person for two supervisees. Group supervision is $50 per person when available.
